Orchards have been recognised nationally as an important habitat type with their own, distinct impact on the landscape, flora, fauna, and economy - Herefordshire is a classic example. In recognition of this and the Year in the Orchard, Herefordshire hosted the first national conference about orchard habitats.

The Conference - Orchards - past, present and future took place at Homme House, Much Marcle on Wednesday 20th July 2011. Over 100 orchard professionals, owners, community orchards and interest groups attended. The programme for the day included a diverse range of topics recognising orchards - past, present and future. There was also a range of displays to view and the option to end the day with a tour around the orchards of nearby Westons Cider or a walk around their factory with cider and perry tasting.
